Location

This webcam is located at the west bank of Angara. It looks direction the river, overseeing the city districts at the east bank (in summer the vegetation of the trees closes the sight). Behind the tree row there is the west bank road (Kuzmikhinskaya doroga) and the old tracks of Trans-Siberian railroad, connecting Moscow (to the left) and Vladivostok (to the right).

In front of the camera is a residential park lot and a tennis court (operating in summer).

The technology behind the webcam

The picture is taken by Logitech QuickCam with CMOS sensor 640 x 480 pixel and automatic light balance.
The camera is connected via USB 2.0 hub to the transmission computer.
The computer is connected to the internet via dial up line of DSI Ltd. in Irkutsk.
When transmission computer is online, the daemon software pushes the latest picture to the internet server. This solution saves the bandwith of the actual computer at the site.
At the internet server, which runs OS Solaris, there is a cron script which cares of processing and archiving the incoming pictures.
The picture is than shown by Zeus webserver to the world wide public.
